    1. The young narrator of this delightful picture book enthusiastically extols the greatness of Saturdays. He describes the many glorious things he can do with his family on Saturday: family meals (breakfast, lunch AND dinner), reading books with dad, imaginative exploits, maybe a birthday party to attend. Even Saturday chores can be turned into adventures as he sprays his unwitting parents when he waters the plants and then patches up Dad after Dad does a little DIY around the house. But best of al [...]

    2. What do you and your family do on the weekends? Where as this little boy's parents may dream of staying in bed late and enjoying some extra winks, he knows he'll need to get them up and going in order to accomplish all the things that Saturday can hold. Touching moments vie with exasperated ones to realistically demonstrate what a busy household can be like. Great illustrations convey the energy it takes to keep up with Saturdays. Great for a little ones bookshelf.

    3. Created with pencil and digitally in Photoshop, the illustrations in this funny picture book show a youngster thrilled by the arrival of Saturday with all its promised delights. While his parents snooze blissfully, grateful to have a morning on which they don't need to wake up early to go to work, he awakens them, ready to fill the day with family fun. I had to laugh at the scenes in which the boy and his father settle down for some reading, but then the father must do most of the work and doesn [...]

    4. I was really excited to read Saturday to Christopher on Friday night. It is about the excitement of the weekend - time spent with parents when they're not working. And it's cute, but it's not as fun as I was hoping it would be. And Christopher didn't seem very into it either.I don't know if he was just too old for this book or what. Maybe it's better for ages 2-4? It reminded me a little of the Little Critter series in the way that the boys imagines things to be different than what they are. And [...]

    5. Saturday has quickly become that book that my kids ask me to read every single night, over and over. They love watching the pained faces of the parents as the kids enjoy their routine Saturday shenanigans. This is our fourth book by Ian Lendler (we also have AN UNDONE FAIRY TALE, and both STRATFORD ZOO books) and he is easily one of their favorite authors. Truly funny kids books are a rarity, and Mr. Lendler never fails to deliver. Add in the clever and iconic art by Serge Bloch, and this book i [...]
